Are we forgetting the bottom-line?

My vacations are going on and I am really enjoying my hometown, Mumbai. Today morning I was sitting on the possibly best promenade in the country: Carter Road, Bandra, Mumbai.

While enjoying the sea breeze, a fisherman’s family caught my eye. I went on to observe them for about an hour as it was fascinating to have a sneak peek into life of someone who is so much different than yourself. They live a very simple life. Earn enough to last for a day/week. Consume. Enjoy life. The happiness on everyones’ face was overwhelming conspicuous.

You see, as we go up the ladder, our stress levels keep rising only to be little ahead in the perpetuarat race. We forget to be happy and smile everyday. The whole purpose of life is for being happy, and if we are not getting more happier, are we really better off? What happens when our bank balances double? Instead of having a roadside cutting tea, we have a tea in Starbucks, paying at least 10 times the amount. Were we not happy with the roadside tea too?  If we have to judge our days only on happiness factor, it only gets worst. You want to be happy, so you burn your money on shopping things you don’t need. Then be tensed about earning more money, to afford to buy someone even more useless. As you grow from Manager to CXO, the family relations start to suffer. The people for whom you are earning don’t even relate to you know. Then there is that sadness about not being close to your family. Where is all this taking us to? Are we all forgetting the bottom-line?
